Countdown to New Year at Hawaii’s Waikiki Beach

Countdown to New Year at the Waikiki Beach

New Year is quickly approaching! Have you made any plans yet on where to spend it? If you will be at the beautiful beaches of Oahu, I highly suggest doing the countdown to New Year at Hawaii’s Waikiki Beach.  Kickoff your new year with a special countdown experience and watch the amazing fireworks display from the soft sands of the Waikiki Beach. You might even make it your own New Year’s Eve tradition!

Fireworks

Sand, sea, and fireworks.  Is there anything else that could make this countdown to New Year more special?  For around 10 minutes, there will be a non-stop display of different beautiful fireworks.  A boat at the middle of the beach will be setting off the fireworks.  You will see red, green, blue, and yellow colors light up to the sky!

Counting down with the crowd

Celebrating New Year’s Eve by the beach or at Honolulu does not happen often for most of us.  Imagine how many tourists at Oahu would be excited to do the countdown by the beach.  Plus, at Waikiki Beach, the fireworks display is free.  Expect a large crowd, but as they say, the more the merrier!  It’s a lot of fun to hear the crowd count down in unison and cheer as the clock strikes 12.  You could hear the excitement and trumpets as the fireworks display goes on!

Bring a towel

To get the best experience, it’s important that you are comfortable.  Bring a towel with you to sit on the sand.  We spent at least 30 minutes waiting and watching the fireworks.

Bring a light jacket/cover-up

The sea breeze at night might be chilly.  It might be a good idea to bring a light jacket or a cover-up.

Go to the beach early

If you want to get a good spot at the beach and to have enough legroom, come in early.  The fireworks display will be at the middle of the Waikiki Beach.  The beach side across the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa is a good spot to view the fireworks!
