Mr. C knew exactly how to make my birthday special and that was by treating to me to one of the top steakhouses in Toronto – Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse! Ever since this top-notch restaurant was introduced to us by our friend, Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse has become a part of my restaurant wishlist. Restaurant wishlist, meaning, all of the restaurants I would love to eat at but I couldn’t because of the location or the price.
The Surprise
Before I found out that we’ll be having dinner at Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse, I was totally decided that I’ll be having steak and eggs for brunch. It’s included in our daily breakfast menu from Hyatt hotel. Mr. C kept on asking what I will be having for brunch but despite my persistence in wanting to order steak, he was more determined in discouraging me. Little did I know that he had already made a dinner reservation at Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse. ♥
Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse
The restaurant has a classy but relaxed ambience. Its entrance led us to a lovely set of stairs and chandeliers.
When Mr. C mentioned our reservation, the hostess immediately showed us to our table even though we came in several minutes early. We passed through the piano bar and the aging room where they keep their house-aged steaks.
Everything was elegantly decorated in wood and the lights were set to make a cozy, intimate atmosphere.
Salad & Appetizer
Our dinner started with complimentary warm cheese popovers and butter.
To balance all of the meat that we will be consuming, we ordered the delicious Jacobs Caesar Salad. One thing we love about Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse is how they prepare their salad – tableside. It was fascinating to see and hear the fresh ingredients being mixed and scraped through the wooden bowl.
The salad was as delicious as we remembered. More spicy, though. The house dressing was freshly made from egg, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, salt and pepper and other secret ingredients. It was very flavorful! The salad was topped with Parmesan cheese and thick slices of bacon. Oh, we loved the bacon!
Steaks of Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse
Our main server asked if it was our first time eating in Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse and he offered to explain the menu for the day. We were so excited with what we were going to eat that we skipped the explanation. We realized later on that it would have been nice to have the menu explained. They serve many different kinds of steaks which were categorized in cuts, breeds, grades, locations and days aged). They can also show a lineup of the different steaks.
We wanted to have two different steaks so we ordered one from Canada (12 oz. of Canadian Prime Angus Striploin from Prince Edward Island) and one from USA (14 oz. of USDA Prime Black Angus from Nebraska). Since we were already there to indulge, I added Bone Marrow to the striploin. There’s also an option to add 3 oz. of Foie Gras or a Half Atlantic Lobster.
Both steaks were thick, tender, flavorful, and juicy. Perfectly cooked in the inside and perfectly seared on the outside! ♥ The steaks were also seasoned very well. In comparison, the USDA Prime Black Angus Ribeye was softer and had more marbling than the Canadian Prime Angus Striploin but we liked the taste of the striploin better. The striploin had a fresher, more iron taste than the ribeye which had a stronger cured flavor.
The bone marrow complimented the steaks well, melting as we placed it on top of every slice. It was SOOOO good!!
The steaks came with a nice selection of salt and sauce. Although we liked all of them, we still preferred our beautiful steaks on their own. They were very delicious as is! Maybe a bit of England sea salt or black lava salt at times.
Excellent Service
We were very satisfied with the service. The servers were very attentive and friendly but still respectful of our space. We also appreciated that they acknowledged my birthday and gave us a couple of tarts with a birthday greeting and a candle. To top it off, they gave us amazing muffins to take home. ♥ We loved the muffins, maybe one of the best we’ve had! They were so moist even though we ate them the next morning and they had semi-sweet chocolate chunks inside!
Overall, we had an amazing, romantic dinner in Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse. Highly recommended!
