Whether you’re on a Caribbean cruise or staying at one of the hotels in Nassau or Paradise Island, spend a day at the Blue Lagoon Island, Bahamas.  Its water activities are great for families while its gorgeous, secluded lagoon and beaches are paradise for those looking for relaxation.  For the best experience, enjoy the best of both worlds like we did!  Meet the cutest dolphins with Dolphin Encounter on Blue Lagoon Island, Bahamas and spend the rest of the day lounging in the breathtaking beaches and lagoon!

Check-in and depart at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal

We headed to the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal to check in and to get our wristbands for our VIP Beach Day and Dolphin Encounter Program.  It was a short, 5-min walk distance from our hotel in Atlantis.

After checking in, we waited for our boat to arrive. All admissions include a round-trip transportation to Blue Lagoon Island.  Starting and ending the trip with scenic views, we rode on a large double-decker catamaran and cruised through Nassau’s harbor, Paradise Island and other islands.  Each ride takes around 25 mins.  It seemed shorter because we enjoyed seeing the islands and the clear turquoise waters.  The rides were comfortable since the catamarans were well-maintained and had good music.

At the Dolphin Encounter, we were asked to change into our swimsuits and leave everything else in the lockers.  This is for the safety of the dolphins.  Our big group was split in half and distributed to 2 open floats.  Each float had a dolphin trainer and a dolphin to interact with.  The dolphins were freely swimming outside the floats until they were called by the dolphin trainers.  Our dolphin showed off its jumping and double flip tricks which we all enjoyed! 🙂

The platform may seem deep but once its your turn to interact with the dolphin and go into the water, there are steps on the platform.

Fun, interactive and educational

Only 10 people at a time were allowed to interact with the dolphin.  This made our experience more personal.  It was delightful and heartwarming because the dolphin was very adorable and funny.  All of us had the chance to hug, kiss, touch and feed it!  We followed the instructions of the dolphin trainer and the dolphin did the rest.

The dolphin trainer oriented us on the dolphin habitat and the proper ways to touch the dolphin – where to rub it and how to glide our hands on its skin.  We also learned that the oldest dolphin in the Blue Lagoon Island is 50 years old!

Photos and video

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to bring our cameras or phones but there is a photo and video staff that captured the whole experience.  We ended up having more than 15 photos and a video to choose from.  The photos and video were sold at high prices but these are the only souvenirs you could get from your personal experience with the dolphin.

Duration of the program: 30 mins.

VIP Beach Day

After the Dolphin Encounter Program, Mr. C and I headed to the guest services to meet our lovely guide, Malinda, for the VIP Beach Day.  We knew that we had VIP Beach Day passes but it was a great surprise that we also got a private tour around the island.  Blue Lagoon Island definitely knows how to give their guests the VIP treatment and this is just the beginning!

The adults-only VIP Beach is located at the farther part of the island.

Mimosas and fresh towels

When we reached the VIP Beach, we were immediately welcomed with mimosa and fresh face towels.

If you are not travelling with kids, get the VIP Beach Day!

As part of the VIP Beach Day package, we had access to the private beach (for adults only) and exclusive lounge at the coconut grove.  There were lounge chairs in the VIP beach area, hammocks on the coconut grove, and butler service for convenience.

Another perk of having a VIP Beach Day pass is the free use of the golf carts.  You could ask for a ride to the VIP Beach, back to the ferry or other programs.

It is the perfect quiet place to relax and de-stress!

The food in VIP Beach was delicious and it was served buffet style.  It included Bahamian peas and rice, barbeque chicken, grilled chicken with sauce, corn on the cob, fried plantain, salad, fruits, and cookies.  Bottled water, lemonade and iced tea were also available at all times.

Sadly, when we were ready to swim in the afternoon, it was already low tide.  We regretted not swimming earlier.  We decided to enjoy our remaining hours relaxing at the lagoon.

Our photos didn’t need any filter because the lagoon and the scenery were already stunning!  We had blue skies, patches of clouds, white sand, clear and calm turquoise waters, and a background of the wooden bridge and the cove.

Tour around the Blue Lagoon Island

Blue Lagoon Island is a beautiful private tropical island!  It has clear turquoise waters, white sand and countless palm trees.  It is very clean and well taken care of.

I also noticed that all of the Blue Lagoon Island personnel were very friendly!  Everywhere we went, we received warm greetings.

  1. That water is super clear! It looks so inviting. However, it’s a pity that you can’t take photos with the dolphins and have to pay for souvenir shots instead.

  2. OMG the water is just amazing and dolphin adventures are always so cute. It’s really encouraging that the dolphins are free. I also liked how they made a whole day trip out of it by including food and of course by limiting the numbers they are making sure you get a personal experience and there is less harm to nature as well. Thanks

  3. Something I have always wanted to do is experience a dolphin encounter, that’s a wonderful shot you got with the dolphin. The VIP beach day sounds incredible, with the private beach and personal butler service. The colour of the water in the lagoon and the ocean are so vibrant, it’s incredible it’s like this naturally.

  4. Oh wow! What clear water! The VIP Beach Day sounds incredibly relaxing and luxurious! I’m not much of a swimmer, but I love being around the water. The dolphins are the icing on the cake!

This looks like a very nice experience! Dolphin encounter is something unbelievable. However I really don’t like the thing where you’re not allowed to take your own pictures and then have to pay high price. I always feel like ripped off at these situations. Ohh and the food looks awesome! 🙂

  6. We’ve been to Freeport in the Bahamas, and the first thing that is recognizable from these photos but that I had forgotten is just how clear and blue the waters are. Swimming with the dolphins must be an unforgettable experience and the way they do it in small groups seems to make it even better. It truly was a VIP experience to get a private tour of the island and exclusive access to a private beach. What a day!

  7. Learning so much about dolphins and interacting with them in a more natural environment is awesome. Too bad the commercial aspect is too obvious with the photo souvenirs, it gives a bit of a bad twist at the end I assume. It seems like a great package deal the VIP Beach Day, all is there for a fun day at the beach.

  8. A very refreshing post. That crystal clear water, dolphins, beach and yummy looking food. Must be a great day. Thanks for leaving the tips. I love sea and this will be a great one.

  9. wow this place looks beautiful although I think anywhere in the Bahamas would look beautiful. I cant wait to go here one day as it is at the top of my bucket list. I will pin this for when I finally get to visit the Bahamas so I can try and visit here too. Thanks for sharing

  10. This looks like a dream!

  11. It looks like a paradise on Earth!! 🙂 Wow! And how lucky are you to experience this – I always wanted to swim with dolphins! Excellent post! Greetings from Slovenia!

  12. Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing! Put me in holiday mode! 😊
