Crossing Off the Bucketlist #3: Dogsledding (Canmore, Alberta)

Dogsledding Canmore Alberta

2 years ago, I was fortunate enough to cross off an item from my bucket listDOGSLEDDING!!

I looove dogs and the big, furry ones are my favorite! ♥  Add these with the fact that I dreamed of snow since I was a child (I lived in a tropical country), dogsledding had always been on top of my bucket listMy childhood self would’ve been so happy.Dogsledding in Canmore, Alberta

This thrilling experience lived up to my dream and more.  The huskies were very friendly (you can cuddle them) and the scenic view was absolutely breathtaking!

It was very interactive because we had to motivate the dogs to make them run faster.  We kept on shouting in high pitch (which was easy for me and my high-pitch voice): “Go puppies!! (even though they’re big)”, “Good job!!”, “Woohoo!”  Apparently, their actions reflect our tone.  So if we need to slow them down, we had to shout in a deeper voice, “Whoa”.  This made me nervous every time because I didn’t know if they’d notice the difference of my high-pitch and low-pitch.

Each sleigh includes a pair of leaders (in the front), a pair of stubborn huskies (in the middle) and a pair of strong huskies (at the back).

We booked the Snowy Owl Tours in Canmore, Alberta and paid $160+GST per person.  The tour included 30 min introduction & instruction, 1 hour of dogsledding, and 30 min warm-up break complete with campfire, hot chocolate and cookies.

Now that I think about it, the fee is twice of the dogsledding tour available in Yellowknife.*  It’s worth it, though.  It’s one of the most exhilarating moments of my life!

*I researched about the price and according to their website, it is the bare minimum to take care of the kennel.

Pin it for later!

    1. Yes! It’s an experience of a lifetime.♥

  4. This is so amazing, definitely a bucketlist experience! The sled dogs are a lot smaller than I had pictured – but very cute.

    1. I also imagined them as really large huskies. When we did the tour, they explained each kind of husky. The larger ones are at the back (white and caramel huskies). Very cute and friendly! 🙂
